ROSENBERG, Texas—Now that floodwaters have receded, clean up is underway in Rosenberg, Texas. A team of about 16 volunteers from Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Disaster Relief have deployed the week of June 13 to clean up houses damaged from the high waters.
“We do what we call mud-out,” said Julian Moreno, a volunteer from Uvalde, Texas. “That means that we go into a house that has been flooded, and we tear down the sheet rock, take out wet instillation, wet furniture, mattresses and whatever furniture needs to be taken out.”
The teams will also be helping to find items that may be lost. “We’re here to help people,” explained Moreno, “trying to save their favorite pictures or a wedding gown or whatever.”
Moreno, who is supervising the mud-out teams, said that volunteers will also be on hand to comfort flood victims.
“We have chaplains that are with our teams that talk to the homeowners and try to help them out emotionally.”
The base site for DR work is Calvary Baptist Church, 4111 Airport Ave. Rosenberg, TX 77471.
