The Final Day

We live in some of the most unbelievable times. There seems to be no certainty in anything. September 11 caught us all off guard, and we found as Americans that even we are not safe. Then there was Enron and Worldcom (we might call this terrorism from within. Only God knows what is next.)

All this should not surprise us. In Matthew 24:36-37 we are told, “But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” (NKJV).

Those were days of INDULGENCE.

“…They were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark” (Matthew 24:38 NKJV).

In other words, Noah’s preaching did not change their indulgent lifestyle. Genesis 6 tells of the great wickedness on the earth.

Those were days of INDIFFERENCE.

They were indifferent to the message of God as well as the man of God (Noah).

The saddest part of all was they were IGNORANT.

Noah’s generation was ignorant of the purpose of God. It seems they were ignorant of the Person of God (Jehovah) and His provision, the ark of salvation.

These same characteristics are prevalent today. Our world is certainly over-indulged in its pleasures. We have never lived in a more indifferent world as far as spiritual concerns. I pray we will not be ignorant to God’s purpose (2 Peter 2:3-9). He has not forgotten us; He will indeed return for His people. Let us not be ignorant to who we are and what we are to be (1 Peter 2:9-12), the called ones who have obtained mercy. In spite of the tragedies and wickedness that surround our society much as it was in Noah’s, it’s thrilling to live in such times with such a hope that Jesus gives. Let’s look with expectancy for that final day.
